Reading time – 39 seconds – then take action
Caution: Unabashed rah-rah below
If you’ve attended one of my keynotes or workshops you likely have heard me talk about the United States Military Academy at West Point and the gaggle of West Pointers who call themselves LGL Leadership. These are people trained in leadership by an organization that is steeped in great leadership history and learning and who taught me what I have adopted as Fully Alive Leadership Practice #1: Manage things; Lead people.
That is to say, these folks get it. They know that your people aren’t your greatest asset, because people aren’t assets. Your building, your production machinery and your intellectual property are assets. People are people and we humans have a way of being willing to give our best only for those we trust. That’s where your leadership opportunity comes in.
LGL Leadership is partnering with the National Council on Culture & Leadership to sponsor and conduct the leadership Trust Summit (view here and here) in San Diego later this month.
“Trust matters. Trust is a complicated thing. It is developed through experiences, beliefs, and actions. Trust is the fuel that inspires commitment and the resilience to get things done. Defining exactly what Trust means to you and your organization is not easy. Join us for an impactful two days as the NCCL brings together leaders from across the country to discuss and learn how to develop and harness . . .
the power of TRUST.”
You’re probably pretty good at driving trust, yet if results are to get better, you’re going to have to change. And change, like everything else, starts with the leader. That’s why you need to be at the summit to hear:
- Commander Mark Schafer, Commander of Naval Special Warfare Basic Training Command – the main Navy SEALs training guy (pending final approval – looks good)
- Dr. Jim Kouzes, co-author of The Leadership Challenge
- And to rub elbows with a lot of really smart, accomplished people who just might have that nugget you’re looking for
‘Fess up time: I’m the ringer on the LGL team, in that I’m the non-West Point guy on the faculty. I’ll be there to facilitate one of the learning tracks.
See you in San Diego.
