It’s great to find a new friend, but I’m a bit concerned about my future with Steve.
He’s an AT&T chat person and I needed his help logging in to their website so I could explore my mobile phone upgrade options. The password I had for the site wouldn’t work, so I clicked on the Forgot Password link. That brought up an ID/password recovery page which instantly reverted to the standard login page. That’s why I needed Steve’s chat help.
The first thing I saw was this chat box:
I know that’s hard to read – it said I was going to have to wait over an hour and a half for Steve’s help. Apparently enough people ahead of me in the queue for assistance got fed up, gave up and hung up, so I only had to wait about 10 minutes. But what message should I take from Steve about his company’s interest in me?
The point is about the impact we have on others. When we treat people in a “who cares?” manner (and that’s pretty much how that chat adventure felt to me) they get that message loud and clear and nothing good comes from that.
Great leaders send exactly the opposite message and that’s how the good stuff happens.
So, Steve, our future together is not looking too good.
