Andi Simon is a corporate anthropologist. “A what?” you reply. Corporate anthropologist. She self-describes this way:
Andi Simon is a Corporate Anthropologist who helps executives see their companies with more observant eyes, achieve “aha!” moments, and discover new and profitable opportunities. By applying the concepts, methods, and tools of anthropology to business environments, she turns observation into innovation and revitalizes businesses seeking growth.
That is to say, it’s all about the culture.
Peter Drucker is credited as the first to declare that, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” and, of course, he was right. That is to say, it doesn’t matter how elegant your plan for growth – your strategy – may be if your company culture won’t deliver. The good news is that Andi is a Ph.D. in anthropology who knows a thing or two about culture.
She does a podcast series and I was greatly honored to be invited to be on her On The Brink podcast recently. Go ahead and have a listen to our spirited conversation. You can stream online or easily download it (just click the middle button beneath the progress slider) so you can listen on your commute or while pounding the treadmill.
I know you’ll check it out, because you’re right – continuous learning is what great leaders do.
