To The Moon

Reading time: 35 seconds

I’m a long time subscriber to the Fresh Milk From Contented Cows e-newsletter of Richard Hadden and Bill Catlette.  These guys are so often singing my song that, to paraphrase the words of Rodgers and Hammerstein in The King and I, “I know they are geniuses because they agree with me.”

Their recent newsletter challenged us to name the mission of STS-135, the last of the space shuttle adventures.  Can you do it?  How about NASA’s overall mission?  Whether you can name either is all about the clarity and consistent communication of NASA’s vision – or the lack of it.  And here’s the important part – that same connectivity applies to your endeavors.

In my Fully Alive Leadership workshops I give some context for that, then open a space for attendees to identify their True North, their personal vision.  It can be a challenging exercise, to be sure, yet it is enormously valuable.  Clarity about one’s True North gives focus and direction for everyone who looks to you for leadership and that drives inspiration and motivation.  It also makes decision making ever-so-much easier, as well as far more effective.

If you’d like to see a fabulous demonstration of the declaration of vision, click here to see it done by a master, President John F. Kennedy.  Then get busy on your own vision and tell your people about it.  It will make all the difference.
